I get CONNECTED but I not sure what I am connected to.
If anyone can give me some help it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: setting up a modem on a pci_mux card
atq0
you should get an "Ok" or at least a return (blank line).
Then try "at&r"
it should return a lot of modem settings.

Re: setting up a modem on a pci_mux card
ATE1
OK
Then get the settings:
ATi1
ATi2
ATi3
ATi4
ATi5
Plus all the earlier commands suggested above.
Maybe if you temporarily disable the getty you will have more luck with cu.
I take it that to get as far as you have, you have already added a line in /usr/lib/uucp/Devices for the direct connection.
I also had trouble with an ISDN modem through that cable type to an L class and I think it was also the TR light.
Recheck you have the correct cable and the list of supported modems for that cable.
Lastly have you considered checking settings in the GSP for the serial card? Might be a red herring, might not.
Good luck.

Re: setting up a modem on a pci_mux card

CONNECTED
When I type in any AT commands they do not show on the screen I get nothing. I am able to do a ~. to disconect but that is it. Not sure if has something to do with GSP or not.

Re: setting up a modem on a pci_mux card
Do AT&E1 to get the local echo on , or try AT&F0 to restore to factory defaults ,check for AT Command Set and try to dial like
ATDT < PHONE NO>
or ATDP < PHONE NO> depending on whehter it is tone or pulse.
You can get the AT command set from the manual of the modem or try google.

Re: setting up a modem on a pci_mux card
See if you can get a hold of a 40233A Cable First and then a 92219Q Cable.
I am not entirely sure about which cross overs you should use but HP can tell you what the Cross over should be if you wanted to make one up.
