Setting up tip for B1000 Workstation

Hi all,
We have a B1000 workstation and we're currently accessing the system using a CDE monitor. We'd like to tip into the serial port. However, when we attempt to tip into the serial port we don't get a response from the system. I'm assuming that the CDE is starting up not allowing us to tip into the port. If the CDE startup is the problem does anyone know where we can disable this (from rc3.d I'm assuming).

Thanks!

To stop your system from starting the CDE login edit the file
/etc/rc.config.d/desktop and remove the entry for desktop.

I dont think there is an equivalent command to "tip" for HPUX. You can connect a console (dumb terminal) to the serial port and if you pull the keyboard and mouse off of the workstation the system will direct the console out the serial port.
