I want to be able to access a HP-unix directory from a Windows machine.
I need to be able to move forms from the Windows machine to the unix directory....not using FTP but seeing the directory as another networked drive on my windows machine.
I've heard of Samba being thrown around...is this where I need to go? I do not believe Samba is loaded on my HPUX box.
Anyone have some steps I could follow written down?

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
/etc $ r ll
ll smb.conf
lrw-rw-r-T 1 root sys 23 Sep 27 12:22 smb.conf -> /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf
username = Windows users name minus domain name
syntax:
valid users = unix users name...
That is why you will have to use a users.map file, format:
!
All the best

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
Could anyone point me to any documentation on how to use or provide me steps in setting this file share up.
The directory I want to share (with many Windows machines)is /u01/at/forms
Victor has given me some information on needing to step up a /etc/users.map and a smb.conf file. I'm just not exactly clear on what to put in them and how these are used.

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
If you share your Unix directories to windows network, it will be fairly easy. You just need to join your Unix samba to Windows BDC/PDC. When you type (samba) "join" command on your Unix machine. It will ask you to provide Windows network Admin user name password.
You can use SWAT (Samba Web Administration Tool) -- a web interface to configure your samba share. Try http://unixserver:901 you may need to logon as root with you Unix root password.

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
samba is the easiest way to go, as you allready have it and you dont need to configure your Windows clients (except adding a new net use ... in the logon batch).
Besides the mentioned documentations and informations you might want to have a look at http://www.samba.org. Here you will find more information than process.
But there is a good section "learn samba" which might be really helpfull for you.
Hope this helps

the one sentence above should read: ... more than you can process at the moment.

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
Also ensure that your files are being copied in binary format and that you recompile them on the HP-UX platform (assuming you are using Oracle Forms). The runtime versions will not work on the HP-UX same as on the windows platform...
kind regards

Re: Share a HP-UX directory with a Windows 2000 machine
I can connect to the Unix Directory from Windows now. Still need to research some security matters but almost there.
