There are many good books available, but one free one from HP is this one:

For HP-UX, I would urge you to use the standard POSIX shell. It is very close to the 'ksh' and (Linux) 'bash' shells. I would avoid the 'csh' shell.

I fully agree regardin csh or tcshell. This is not the best choice for shell scripting.
Look at the link.http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/shellsrptg/
There are some interesting books in addition to "Shell scripting".
