server restarted automatically but logs are not showing

Dear,
my server model HP E9000/803
os=HP-UX B.10.20
last day my server is restarted automaticlly but no logs about restarting.
I chacked logs in following files
/etc/shoutdownlog
/var/adm/OLDsyslog
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
in crash and /var/tombstones
there is no logs in above files so I can't
find out why my server is restarted.
plese tell me where should I check and why my server is restarted. How can I over come to it

Re: server restarted automatically but logs are not showing

The name you gave us is not an exact model name, but I guess it is an old D-Class (run "model"). unfortunately this system doesn't have something like a GSP/MP.

Make sure you are reading the current log files. It looks to me, the system was upgraded from an earlier version to 10.20 years ago. But if the syslog is in
/var/adm/syslog/syslog.log
I would expect the OLDsyslog in the same directory.

If you cannot find the reason in the logs, you may run the diagnostics for any HPMC information or check the environment for temperature or power problems.
Could a power outage be the reason?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: server restarted automatically but logs are not showing

Shalom prash,

Your server is not going to tell you "I restarted because the power failed"

Its going to have entries in the syslog or old syslog that indicate a possible cause. the signs of a power failure are the absence of anything. There may be a message about the disks writing dirty buffer, but not much else.

A HPMC or other major problem will be noted in the logs.
