We've been using CIFS/9000 *** CLIENT *** software for years, but now we have need to use the CIFS/9000 *** SERVER ***.
(Sorry for the yelling, I'm just trying to emphasize... :)
Should we uninstall CIFS/9000 client before installing CIFS/9000 server -- or can we simply install the server component without touching the client component? We think we've read somewhere where the server component actually contains the client component as well, but we're not sure about this.
Thanks.

Re: Should we uninstall CIFS client before installing CIFS server?
The client software is included inside the server sofware.

HP CIFS product suite is provided free with HP-UX 11.x Application Releases. It is automatically ignited with HP-UX 11.0, and is a standard component of HP-UX 11i Operating Environments. Both CIFS Server and CIFS Client products are included.

Re: Should we uninstall CIFS client before installing CIFS server?
I just install over the top and have never had an issue. The client install does boot the box I think, so be careful doing that in prime time.

Re: Should we uninstall CIFS client before installing CIFS server?
I believe that the client/server pieces are relatively independent which means that you can install the server sw without first uninstalling the client piece. According to HP Software site, each is associated with a unique product numbers (server: B8725AA and client: B8724AA).
See the link below for a brief but informative info on the two:

Re: Should we uninstall CIFS client before installing CIFS server?
I was able to successfully install the B8725AA HP CIFS Server software late yesterday. Though the HP documentation suggested in a way that it included both the server & client components, the B8725AA bundle only contained the server software. Because of that, my existing cifsclient configuration survived the installation without being touched.
B8725AA did not require a reboot, btw.
Thanks again for your responses.
