Shutdown and power off

I know this is very basic, but I can't seem to find this info. How do I shutdown and power off my HP9000-V class? I know how to shutdown & reboot (shutdown -r -y 0), but I have never had the need to power off. We are having major electrical work done and everthing needs to be powered off.

Secondly, how do I start it back up?

Thanks

Re: Shutdown and power off

To shutdown and halt the machine:

# shutdown -h y 0

Then you have to phsycially shut off the power on the mahcine.

To start it back up, turn the power back on. If you have external disks attached, I would turn the disks on first and then the machine itself.

Re: Shutdown and power off

Tom,

I'm not familiar with the V-class, but I don't believe there's any automated way of accomplishing this. You'll have to do your "shutdown -h -y 0", and then manually turn off the power switch. Bringing it back up is a matter of turning the switch(es) back on.

Re: Shutdown and power off

Thanks to all. BTW-I made a keying error. I know it probably doesn't matter, but our processor is an "N" class not a "V" class.

Thanks again.

Re: Shutdown and power off

You're right, Tom - same thing for the N-class.

Re: Shutdown and power off

I (on others systems) always used "shutdown -i0 -y -g0"
