Shalom,

Unless you've done something really unusual, your system boots off its internal scsi drives. I'm not aware of any option to upgrade the internal core I/O, which control the disks and have a path you can't change.

I would not be too worried unless you are booting off external disk.

Re: Simplex scsi upgrade to duplex on hpux

Well I was not worried until the service person sent me this info:
As we discussed, I have this Friday morning at 08:00 reserved to install the duplex card into the RP4440 in preparation of the Serviceguard installation. I wanted to make sure you still have the card itself for me to install. I also wanted to remind you of the disk path changes that will result from installing the card. The path to the upper drive (labeled ├в SCSI ID 1├в } (hotswap slot 2) will not change from 0/1/1/0.1.0. The path to the lower drive (labeled ├в SCSI ID 0├в ) ( hotswap slot 1) WILL CHANGE though. It will change from 0/1/1/0.0.0 to 0/1/1/1.0.0. Please call the Response Center if you are not clear on the procedures for correcting the LVM and boot changes that will be needed. I also found the following warning in the maintenance manual:

NOTE In simplex mode, both hard disk drives, slot 0 and slot 1, are driven by SCSI channel

A. When the duplex board is installed, slot 1 hard disk drive is now driven by SCSI

channel B. If HP-UX was previously installed and ├в whole disk vxfs├в was not used,

the system will no longer boot. Refer to the HP-UX Installation Guide for further

information.

Although this warning has the slot numbers defined incorrectly (s.b. ├в ┬ж slot 1 and slot 2, are driven ├в ┬ж), the basis for the warning is probably still correct. You may want to mention this when working with the response center as well.

Re: Simplex scsi upgrade to duplex on hpux

Hi,

the disk 0 will change from

disk 1 0/1/1/0.0.0 sdisk CLAIMED DEVICE HP 73.4GST373454LC

to hw path

0/1/1/1.0.0

The upgrade requires a special board ( I think this is an upgrade kit).

I would reduce the mirror from this disk, upgrade the box and mirror again.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Simplex scsi upgrade to duplex on hpux

The "duplex board" has the product number A9740B. Be aware once installed, you must not use both external connectors on the core I/O board.

Hope this helps!

Re: Simplex scsi upgrade to duplex on hpux

Thanks, but I guess I don't have to worry after the service person installs the duplex about any specific changes because of the hardware path change for booting?

Re: Simplex scsi upgrade to duplex on hpux

Your service person should be aware this hw-path change. This will change the device file too.
You may either remove the mirror from this disk before installation or fix the LVM config after.

FYI: this is the description
http://docs.hp.com/en/A9550-96003/A9950-96003_rp4410_rp4440_Upgrade.pdf

(page 84 - the RAID card is optional/you will probably get the duplex card only)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
