Re: single mode

Reboot, interrupt the process at the "10 second" prompt, interact with ISL, enter "hpux -is" at the ISL prompt.

Re: single mode

when the system is booting : it displays a message " hit any key to interrupt the boot within 10 sec"

So hit any key within 10 sec , it will bring you to a menu where you say "bo pri" and hit enter .

Answer "y" whne it asks interact with IPL .
It bring you to ISL prompt .

At ISL prompt enter :
ISL> hpux -is
and hit enter .

Now the system will boot into single user mode .

Re: single mode

Or instead of having to interrupt the boot sequence within BCH, just simply type shutdown -y 0 This will reboot the machine and it will come up into single user mode automatically.

Re: single mode

To clarify what Walter said, this will actually NOT reboot it single user mode.

It will take you down to single user mode, but it will not kill off all processes (not the un-sigable processes) and it may not unmount all of your file systems.

It SHOULD logoff all the users and put you at a prompt on the console where you can do some work.
