Size Limitations in HP/UX 11.0

Can somebody tell me the size limitations for a file and a file system in HP/UX 11.0 or where can I find this information?

Thanks in Advance

Hi,

File system size limit is 2 GB unless you've set largefile system while creating filesystem

The filesystem has to be created with the -o largefile option (or modified via the fsadm -o largefile option) and also has to be mounted with the same option for this option to take affect
The thread below will give you more hints

Hi JRF,
useful link.

Hi Justo,
file system size limit is not 2gb as Uday mention. but If you have largefile system then you can create file > 2gb. He must have miss type.

Re: Size Limitations in HP/UX 11.0

Thanks all,

But I can see that it depends on HFS or JFS and into JFS depend on the version. How can I know my JFS version?

Regards,

Justo.

Re: Size Limitations in HP/UX 11.0

Hi Justo:

To determine your filesystem's JFS version, do:

# fstyp -v /dev/vgXX/lvolX

Re: Size Limitations in HP/UX 11.0

Hi again,

I do it:
HP1 #> fstyp -v /dev/vg01/lvol1
vxfs
version: 3
f_bsize: 8192
f_frsize: 1024
f_blocks: 3145728
f_bfree: 1780665
f_bavail: 1669374
f_files: 445196
f_ffree: 445164
f_favail: 445164
f_fsid: 1073807361
f_basetype: vxfs
f_namemax: 254
f_magic: a501fcf5
f_featurebits: 0
f_flag: 16
f_fsindex: 6
f_size: 3145728

Then this tell me version 3, but this is the JFS version or the disk layout version. This is because if I have JFS 3.3 and disk layout 2 I have 2Gb limit but if I have JFS 3.3 and disk layout 3 I have 1 Tb limit, and I need to know if I can create a database file with 20 Gb size.

Thanks again.

Justo.

Re: Size Limitations in HP/UX 11.0

Hi Justo:

This should be the layout version. I think that for either JFS 3.1 or 3.3, 'fstyp' reports version "3".

Try this:

# vxupgrade mount_point

This should print (only), *not update*, the version.

Regards!
