Size of bootable image on Ignite server
I have been given the task to allocate disk space for an Ignite server. Can someone help me out by letting me know the average size of a HP-UX Ignite image? Does it differ greatly depending on server type? If "yes" what are the variables that change this size? If "no" it is ok to -> size x no.ofservers = total disk space req.?

Re: Size of bootable image on Ignite server
One our ignite server we typically see the size of an ignite image to be about 50% less than the total size of space used by vg00. Ignite uses compress/gzip on the main image but most of vg00 is binaries and libraries which dont compress well.
eg.
bdf | grep vg00
and add up the used column for all lvols, then take of 50% and this approxmately the size of the ignite image (although to be safe we allow the size of the used column without compression).
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Size of bootable image on Ignite server
For 11i I've been seeing 600MB averages (MCOE). For 11.00 300MB.
I'm getting 1G per around 45minutes in backup and 1hour per restore, with an SC10 on 100Bt.. lan is the real bottleneck in my case.
Some archives I've archived 3G when include all vgs!!
Make sure you build a largefiles filesystem.
If you want a CBT I made on ignite give me an email. Check my profile.
Later,
Bill

Re: Size of bootable image on Ignite server
In my experience -
Anywhere from 200 Mb for a 712 workstation that has a 1 or 2 gig drive, to
800 Mb for a "full boat" install of HPUX 11, for each image.
If you are just starting with ignite, I recommend at least 8 Gb disk space, that way you can play with make_sys_image, and figure out how you want to settle. Once you retire and image, you can always back it off to tape, since they are all .gz files.
