Slow copy between HP-UX 11i systems

I have a specific problem that I am not sure you guyz have come across:

I have 4 HP-UXsystems

2 x HP-UX 10.20 K-class

2x HP-UX 11.11 L-class

If I try to copy any files between HP-UX 10.20 Systems It works fine. Same with copy between 10.20 system & 11.11 system.

If I tried to copy (rcp / ftp) between two 11i systems it is tooo slow and the copy rate is 32K bytes /sec. Both systems are plugged in to the same Intel Switch and operates in 100BT/FullDuplex.

I can't figure out why this is happening. Both the systems have latest Patch bundles. Does any one have a clue ?

Mesaage me if you could,

Thanks

Just a thought, Do you get any problems in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log also do you see anything from
netfmt -t 10 -f /var/adm/nettl.LOG00

Re: Slow copy between HP-UX 11i systems

Can you re-verify that both systems are running at 100bt:

lanadmin
lan
display

look at speed, it should display 100000000 and not 10000000. Plus in the description field you should see FD for full duplex, and not HD.

I have many 11i machines, and I have not seen this behavior. Could you possibly have some bad network cards? Again, look at your lanadmin for the "errors" columns, where you shouldn't see a lot of errors.

Re: Slow copy between HP-UX 11i systems

Hi:

Make sure that your lan configuration is nailed to be 100FD in your /etc/rc.config.d/* files. This will negate auto-negotiation being a factor on the server. Correspondingly, make sure your switch is set to the same as your server configuration.

Re: Slow copy between HP-UX 11i systems

I would wonder more about the workload on the L's.

Is cpu available? Is there a lot of network traffic already?
What do pings between the machines say?

If they are on the same switch and same network, the pings should be <1ms.

If their network routing tables are not right, they could be sending the packets somewhere else first and not to each other.

Re: Slow copy between HP-UX 11i systems

Is the transfer rate good for the 10.20 to both of the 11.11 systems? Perhaps it could be an issue with just one of them. Do you see a high number of collisions with netstat -ni on either of the 11.11 systems? That's sometimes an indication the switch's duplex setting may not match the server's.

An aside: Please refrain from seeking answers via email instead of using the web site. A great purpose of the forums is that the community at large can learn from past experiences. The posting of suggestions, results, and the solution(s) are a tremendous help to others later because we can search to see if the issue was addressed earlier.

Thanks,
Darrell
