smbnull gid change

Hi there --

We have an HP-UX 11.11 ver 1 server, and I am merging two existing /etc/group files into one. The two files are from the 11.11 system and an older 11.00 system that is being supplanted by the newer one. I have a GID conflict between smbnull, which exists on the 11.11 system, and another group which I am importing in from the older system. The plan is to change the GID of smbnull to allow the other group to retain its GID.

Can this be done without adversely affecting any services and/or daemons on the system? Thanks.

Re: smbnull gid change

I changed it on a few systems recently for similar reasons you want to. No adverse affects to doing so. As far as I could tell, no files actually had group ownership set for it. I think it's just there for the daemons to run so it doesn't matter what the GID is as long as the group exists.

Re: smbnull gid change

Similar for the smbnull user and UID also... just in case you wondered.
