SMS messages directly from Unix Shell

Does anyone know how to send SMS messages from UNIX. There are alot of shareware software for the wintel platform, but I cannot see the same for UNIX on the net.

Re: SMS messages directly from Unix Shell

This is not really the answer but a workaround I use.
There is a site called www.smsmebaby.com
You can setup email aliases here that send SMS messages so basically my Unix machine sends an email to it and smsmebaby sneds out the SMS message to my mobile phone. It works!!
Minimum effort maximum output!

Re: SMS messages directly from Unix Shell

we gave up on SMS a long time ago, much better to use email to our mobile phones instead. We simply send an email to the service provider of our phone and it appears as an email on the handset. You can get a lot more info using an email than with SMS, far more informative.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

There are several perl scripts for SMSing from command line.
