SMTP Gateway Sendmail

SMTP Gateway Sendmail

We have a connection to the world that I'm not sure is the same as being connected to an ISP. So there is no external mail SMTP gateway that I know of.

My HPUX boxes are all 11.11. They send mail just fine. But when I want to send mail, say from Outlook Express, it fails. So is there a way to send mail from Microsoft platforms, using HPUX as just a SMTP relay without having an external Mail source. Or can I do it without one?

Please help!

Re: SMTP Gateway Sendmail

Hello Russell,

Sure you can. You just need to configure sendmail to allow your client machine to send emails. I haven't done it on HP-UX but you need to configure a couple of files (kind of access lists) so it will serve as a mail relay for your hosts (or networks). Otherwise, someone from the internet could use your sendmail as a relay (spammers mostly).

Try to find some documentation on sendmail on docs.hp.com.

DOn't know if I understand this correctly, but it sounds like you want to "pop" to your Unix boxes from M$ pc's using Outlook....

If that's the case, then you need to install a "pop" server on your HP box(es)...

Here's one for HP-UX:
