snmp and ServiceGuard

Does ServiceGuard require the snmpd deamon to be running or only the cmsnmpd?

Re: snmp and ServiceGuard

Hi Sarah,

cmsnmpd is a subagent for the master agent snmpdm therefore they must work together.
They don't *have* to report to any other server - but in HA they normally do report to other cluster nodes. For EX, when a package fails the signal is sent via cmsnmpd to the other cluster nodes. So for cmsnmpd to work snmpdm has to be running as well.

Re: snmp and ServiceGuard

Thanks Jeff! I will leave both cmsnmpd and snmpd running and bring this requirement to the attention of the security team.
Thanks again,
Sarah

Re: snmp and ServiceGuard

Sarah,

Just let the security team know that as far as Service Guard is concerned, SNMP traffic will not being traversing outside of the subnet that the cluster lives in. So if they wish they could block SNMP at the borders of that subnet without affecting MC/SG.
