SNMP messages

How do I send snmp alerts and data to a SNMP management console ? One of my applications folks tells me that his application will now be sending snmp alerts. How do I direct these these ?

Currently we do not have HP openview or IBM Tivoli console.

Is it still possible to gather/send these alerts ? (I have only HP Perfview manager and measureware agents). Is there any documentation ?

Thanks

Re: SNMP messages

If you want to manage snmp, then may I suggest that you get OpenView, otherwise your development costs to write an application that will accept the snmp traps will probably far outweigh the cost of purchasing the software. Although, you might want to look into www.bb4.com, but they suggest third party snmp plug-in's (which could be free).

Re: SNMP messages

I dont seem to get the exact package suited to my need. All I need is an application which will accept the snmp alerts generated by the aplication which we have.

Re: SNMP messages

Hi Krishnan,

Neither perfview nor measureware agent can receive traps. Mrtg pulls snmp data using snmpget but cannot receive snmp traps. Having Tivoli or NNM may be too much for you.

There are some snmp trap receivers available free on the internet. There are some snmp tools available at the following URL. Most of them for Microsoft systems. But trap receiver can be a winnt. If you want you can try it.
