SNMP Problems - Running Oracle

Hi All,

My DBA was trying to run the DBSNMP for Oracle
and he got this message:

NMS-0001: Warning: dbsnmp unable to connect to SNMP master agent...Recieved stop message from COMM process.

So he went to the Oracle forum and it
said to try stopping and starting the SNMP
deamon. And I did that with the SNMP Master
Network Mgt Daemon and it made no difference.

Then we tried running the Oracle PEER Master
Agent to try to get the SNMP agents working
and we got this error:

NP_NAA_PORT Not Set
start_peer: does not exit
Please install the lastes SNMP HP OV Patches:

PHSS_21046 - installed no problem
PHSS_22565 - installed no problem
PHSS_21908 - won't install since there is no
previous fileset.

Now we are an 11.00 Unix shop with no Open
View Products installed. I don't even think
we are set up for SNMP stuff.

The other SNMP Daemons aren't running:

Trap Desp Network Mgt
Network Mgt SubAgent
MIB Network Mgt SubAgent

but they are in my setup script, yet I don't
see them when I do a ps -ef.

Any clues here on SNMP Stuff? What does
Emanate mean?

Is this really a DBA Oracle issue? Do I need
to setup SNMP and if so how?

TIA,
Laurie

Re: SNMP Problems - Running Oracle

Emanate is an snmp agent architecture, build for flexibility.

It works with a master agent, handling all requests from the managers. Depending of the object to be retrieved, the requests are forwarded to one of many possible sub agents.

It sounds like the agent extension you try to install is expecting an Emanate master agent to be installed.

You can try to download a triel version of NNM 6.10, and select only to install the SNMP part - it might help you out.

For more infor on the Emanate agent, pls have a look at:
www.snmp.com

they build the thing

Re: SNMP Problems - Running Oracle

Hi there.
If you want to run the Intelligent Agent for Oracle ( for the Enterprise Manager and so on ),
did your DBA try lsnrctl dbsnmp_start ?
This will start two snmp processes.
