Re: SNMP setup on HPUX

Which OIDs are you looking at ?

HPUX uses the Emanate SNMP client. The snmp daemon does not really do any polling. A server accessing the client does the polling, but that is just symatenics.

The HPUX OIDs start here
.iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.hp.nm

Re: SNMP setup on HPUX

You could configure EMS to poll certain objects and send a email or snmp trap when a threshold is reached.

go into sam
Event monitoring
Add a monitoring request

if you have 11.31 you will have to configure EMS via system home page.

You can also poll these metrics via system insight manager as the centralized polling system.

Re: SNMP setup on HPUX

Vernita,

I recommend you to use either the System Managememt Homepage ( SMH ) to monitor one system at a time or use Systems Insight Manager ( SIM ) to monitor all your systems in the enterprise, they are going to use either SNMP or WBEM which is better to monitor Hardware or other many events.

For info just search for SMH or SIM for HP-UX on the main website www.hp.com and you will get plenty of information. Both of the Software are free and really easy to implement.

Jaime.
