Socket problems with java and HP-UX

I have a problem with a client/server program written in java. Problem is that aftersome unspecified time the client cannot open any sockets to server anymore. All attempts to open a socket to server results an error. Socket itself is opened and the connection is opened, but sending data to connection results
IOException: broken pipe. What is causing this? I seems like the sockets are not released proberly.

Other thing related, can the TCP option SO_LINGER used safely with HP-UX? Currently
it is not used and it might even solve the problem above.

regards, Kimmo

Hi
use the tool hpjconfig
http://www.devresource.hp.com/JavaATC/JavaEarlyAccess
This tool suggest some ndd parameter. I hope this solve your problem.

Kimmo,

At HPUX 11.0, SO_LINGER was not working in certain situations, until you install PHNE_20436 or later version, of the "ARPA TRANSPORT" Patch.

Hope this helps,

Re: Socket problems with java and HP-UX

hi,
have you specifying connect time in client socket, if so the socket will close the connection with server after the specified time. and the sockets on both server and client are opened since you are not closing the sockets.

Thanks,

Do you know what is this SO_LINGER setting causing if the UX is not patched?
