software migration

Hi

I am interested in migrating a application from one system to another. I have MirrorDisk, aC/aC++ and OnlineJFS installed in one HP server and i want to migrate to amother machine... I have licence and other info for one machine... and want to migrate to another...
If you have any experience on that kindly let me know

Thanks
Vijay

Re: software migration

Vijay,

The software install codewords are tied to the CD part number and the software product, not the server. You can just use the same codewords on the new machine. In fact, you can just copy /var/adm/sw/.codewords for the old to the new.

Re: software migration

Thanks Pete for your quick reply

I am worrying whether there will be any licensing issues in the future...
Thanks

Re: software migration

If you have these machines under a HP support contract, you just let HP know that you are moving the applications from one machine to the other and they will update your support contract accordingly. If you are moving to a larger machine, there may be a charge since the support costs may be higher for the new machine.

Re: software migration

Viajy,

As Patrick said, just let HP know. I've done this many times with no problems from the migration or from HP.

Re: software migration

You will not have licensing problems with the HP products you mentioned.

HP does not do inode licensing like easyspooler print spool does for example.

Once you copy or enter the codeworeds the applications listed will work on the new server.

HP is flexible with customers using the license on two machines while doing a system migration or transition. The licensing model is however per CPU and if you are going to use the products in production on more CPU's than before you are obligated to purchase a license.'

Re: software migration

Vijay,

Sure! I wouldn't even bother to mention it to them until I was ready to put the new box on support.
