Why does the Software Update Manager at http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/sum/home.do only show HP9000 OS version options versus also including Itanium OS software as well?

Hi Mike:

I suspect that this is because the packages contain code that will run on either architecture. In this case, the older "HP9000" designation suggests backward compatibility.

I think a label like "pa/ia64" or "9000/ia64 would be a better one.

My experience is that the software will run on either platform.

Do the download, then a swlist -l product -s to confirm.

Backward compatibility is how HP said they would do this.

I ran the command you mentioned above, but I don't see anything in the output that indicates the software is for IA64 systems.

Would I receive an error if the software was not for the system I was running the swlist command on?

It depends on the kind of HP systems you have under a support contract.

We actually have contracts that relate to IA64 boxes but when I navigate to the SUM, I don't see download options for just IA64 software -- it appears as others have written above that this is related to backwards compatibility.
