Solaris equivalent to Ignite/UX

Does anyone know what SUN would call their "equivalent" tool to Ignite/UX? If anyone knows about any serious limitations by comparison that would be very helpful too.
Thanks in advance. If someone knows about a third party equivalent tool for Solaris that would be also helpful.

It might be better to ask this question in the SUN support forums

Re: Solaris equivalent to Ignite/UX

Hi Ted,

The Ignite-UX equivalent is Solaris Jumpstart.

Refer the Jumpstart documents at
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs

Refer this link for info.

Re: Solaris equivalent to Ignite/UX

The equivalent is called "Flash" - it can backup to tape, lan and - i think - an alternate disk location.

I *think* the tapes are bootable, otherwise one boots of solaris OS media and somehow incarnates the recovery process.

Requirement is a solaris version equal or above solaris 9.

for solaris 8 and below You have to rely on JumpStart, or - which would be my recommendation - the bacula bare metal recovery option.
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.

Re: Solaris equivalent to Ignite/UX

Hello,

it is JUMPSTART...

it can be used to make boot server

and can create images for clients

can be customized for diff clients

depending on client config, ie.. like memory, MAC address etc... we can have specific images.

Regards,

Siva.

Re: Solaris equivalent to Ignite/UX

Thank you all for you inputs. I was looking for something that could help provide a quick recovery to bare metal from a golden system, as can be done with Ignite/UX and apparently Flash. I couldn't tell from the documentation I read, any easy way to capture the image of an existing server, so I could quickly restore it and all the patches that you can with Ignite/UX. It seems that SUN has finally caught up to what HP-UX has had for some time. I didn't see this functionality touted the Veritas bare metal recovery for Solaris either. So I would say the best answer is that it takes both Jumpstart and Flash to match Ignite/UX.
