Re: Speciallity in HP-UX

Shalom Mridul,

Kind of a broad question.

HP-UX emphasizes reliability, high availabilty add in products and configuration. It sets the standard by which other OS's are measured concerning time between boots.

It perfoms nicely if you know how to tune it, and SD-UX is a unique but very good way to handle software installation/upgrade.

Re: Speciallity in HP-UX

Not an easy question to answer.

An answer to this question depends on what you are doing, or trying to do.

Example, performance is relative to what you are running on the systems and with what kind of load.

In technology, HP has the Itanium systems but IBM has something similar and SUN is reportedly close to marketing something else that is similar.

As to SW upgrades, each has their own ethod of installing - HPUX has SDUX, SUN has pkgadd utility, IBM has BOS (I think) or something similar as well.

There are all kinds of research companies/organizations that do benchmark testing on the various platforms. A lot of these I feel I biased.

The respective companies (HP, IBM, SUN, etc) also produce benchmarks and these are biased.

Remember, you are in HPUX 'land' so a lot of the information you see will be biased to HPUX.

Re: Speciallity in HP-UX

It is the only major UNIX that has a complete suite of virtualization technology, from secure resource partitions within an OS, to virtual (software) partitions, to support on larger servers for hard partitions. AIX has no hard partitioning. Solaris lacks true (independent OS) virtual (software) based partitions.
