Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

What command can I run to find the speed in MHz of an HP-UX v11.11 S16K-A machine? I can sign onto the machine but I do not have root access to it.

Hi Mott,

echo itick_per_usec/D | adb -k /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

Run this script - called hpmem - uses adb to get speed:

outpu look like:

Mott,

Take a look at this thread for some tips.

I haven't heard of that model of HP9000 before. What does the 'model' command return ?

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Mott,

As far as I know, it's virtually impossible to do without root access.

And what in heaven's name is a "S16K-A machine"?

I would imagine that the S16K is a Superdome 16000. Basically the 16-way Superdome.

S16K-A is the model string on a RP8400 "Keystone" server.

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Sorry Mott - just realized you don't have root access - you can not determine the cpu speed without root....not that I know of anyways....

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Hi,

without root access you cannot get speed, can just obtain only cpu version.
An example:

$ model
9000/811/D210
$ more /usr/lib/sched.models | grep -i D210
D210 1.1d PA7200

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Mott,

I do not have a Keystone to play with ;-(

and you will not get what you want on older machines doing it via cstm, but it's worth a try:

echo "selclass qualifier cpu ;info;wait;infolog"|/usr/sbin/cstm > /tmp/cpuinfo ; grep 'Speed' /tmp/cpuinfo

(the above is one single line)

Bernhard

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Hi Mott,

The speed is either 750MHz or 875MHz, it's very hard to find out which without root access.

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Mott,

Just so you know - I tried making a suid script that would run as root and even that wouldn't work so I guess the answer has to be that you can't do it without root privileges.

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

Thank you all for your help. Bernhard's answer worked and I was able to run his suggestion without having root access.
Below is the command used and the response:
$ echo "selclass qualifier cpu ;info;wait;infolog"|/usr/sbin/cstm > /tmp/cpuinfo ; grep 'Speed' /tmp/cpuinfo

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

That's interesting - the cstm approach doesn't work for me:

$ grep -i speed /tmp/cpuinfo
Instruction Cache [Kbyte]: 512 Processor Speed: N/A
Instruction Cache [Kbyte]: 512 Processor Speed: N/A
Instruction Cache [Kbyte]: 512 Processor Speed: N/A

Re: Speed in MHz of S16K-A machine?

I tried it on both an 11.0 and an 11i system. The 11i system came back with
"cstm>selclass qualifier cpu ;info;wait;infolog
^-- (SelClass) is currently disabled. --"

The 11.0 system gave the N/A response.

I don't want to hijack Mott's thread with my own personal questions so if there's any point in pursuing this, email me (my address is in my profile) and I'll open up a new thread.
