Re: spooler

Hello,

It's normal for jobs to queue up when a printer can't process the requests such as when the printer is out of paper. I'm not aware of a job normally being created when you reach an out-of-paper condition.

No, but you may wish to check the printer script.

Re: spooler

If I understand your question then yes, it is perfectly normal for a job to queue even though the printer is off-line for any reason. The idea is that as soon as the problem is cleared up (e.g. paper installed) the spooler starts the print jobs. It is possible to detect printer problems and then
issue a "reject" command so that the user or application is not able to submit the job. The lp queue must then be enabled with an "accept" command to allow further print request submissions. Man accept, reject for details.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: spooler

hi,

sorry , think i express my problem wrongly.
my situation now is i got this 1-byte size job keep queue up when this printer is out of paper, and the print queue grow very fast, so i wonder if this is the status indication but apparently it seems like not. i will try to check the printer script as well as cron job to see what cause this to happen.
