SPT & atdd

I would like to use spt as a passthru for my n4000-55 to control the IBM 3584 tape library. spt. spt is present in "/stand/system" and lsdev show's it as well. but spt binded to nothing... Instead I have the following:

autoch 0 1/2/0/0.8.0.255.1.1.1 schgr CLAIMED DEVICE IBM 03584L32
/dev/rac/c10t1d1

My tape drives are recognized:
ape 4 0/2/0/0.8.0.255.1.2.0 atdd CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULT3580-TD2
/dev/rmt/4m /dev/rmt/4mn /dev/rmt/c11t2d0BEST /dev/rmt/c11t2d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/4mb /dev/rmt/4mnb /dev/rmt/c11t2d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c11t2d0BESTnb
tape 2 0/8/0/0.8.0.255.1.3.0 atdd CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULT3580-TD2
/dev/rmt/2m /dev/rmt/2mn /dev/rmt/c9t3d0BEST /dev/rmt/c9t3d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/2mb /dev/rmt/2mnb /dev/rmt/c9t3d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c9t3d0BESTnb
tape 1 1/0/0/0.8.0.255.1.4.0 atdd CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULT3580-TD2
/dev/rmt/1m /dev/rmt/1mn /dev/rmt/c8t4d0BEST /dev/rmt/c8t4d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/1mb /dev/rmt/1mnb /dev/rmt/c8t4d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c8t4d0BESTnb
tape 3 1/2/0/0.8.0.255.1.1.0 atdd CLAIMED DEVICE IBM ULT3580-TD2
/dev/rmt/3m /dev/rmt/3mn /dev/rmt/c10t1d0BEST /dev/rmt/c10t1d0BESTn
/dev/rmt/3mb /dev/rmt/3mnb /dev/rmt/c10t1d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c10t1d0BESTnb

Looks the system is using sctl instead of spt.

Netbackup is the backup system I'll be using as well....

According to Symantec's manuals they said to use spt for scsi3.....

Re: SPT & atdd

Hi,

Check this url below :

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/devdrvr/Doc/IBM_ultrium_tape_IUG.pdf

They mention only 'schgr' as the changer drivers.

And as far as I know on HP-UX, the 'spt' or 'schgr' driver is made due to where the device sit on.

If on NIO Bus so 'spt' driver is the one we can create. But if on HSC or PCI Bus, the driver should be 'schgr'.

Check below document (docID : KBRC00003237) about 'Quick Guide to Configuring a DDS Autoloader or a DLT' for your reference :

http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000079989088

So whether the driver spt or schgr it's not a big problem. You just need to specified the robotic arm device file on your backup management software (eg. DataProtector, Veritas, Symantec, etc)

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,
AW
