sqlplus are not run properly

I am new in hp-ux11i v3 and oracle 10g environment. when I have run $sqlplus in oracle user or $oracle_home/bin/sqlplus /nolog ,it is not run. then i try to run $oracle_home/bin/./sqlplus /nolog that time it is run. what is the problem? plz suggest me.

hi,

normally you should be logged under the user that the Oracle DB is running, and you need to have set correctly system enviromnt variables required for oracle.

for example on linux machine :

ORACLE_BASE=/oracle; export ORACLE_BASE
ORACLE_HOME=$ORACLE_BASE/app/10.2.0; export ORACLE_HOME
ORACLE_SID=orcl; export ORACLE_SID
ORACLE_TERM=xterm; export ORACLE_TERM
PATH=/usr/sbin:$PATH; export PATH
PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH; export PATH
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib:/lib:/usr/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
CLASSPATH=$ORACLE_HOME/JRE:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib:$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/jlib; export CLASSPATH

similar should be on HP-UX.
