Squid on hpux11.0 and Netscape messanger on pc

I have an mail provider on the internet e.g. post.strato.de . It is my incoming mail server for netscape's messanger. As long as my pc is connected to the internet via modem and dial in connection is made I can receive mail from this provider.

Now I have a HPUX11.0 workstation with squid as my proxy server. This box makes the connection to the internet. On the pc's I make a manuel proxy-configuration for http and ftp where I enter the
hpux workstation name and the squid port 3128.

With that done I can http through the internet on each pc with netscape. But how can I use netscape instant messanger for incoming and outgoing mail?
What do I have to change in my settings?

What you would have to do is configure squid as a transparent proxy!

You can add/change the ACL for allowed ports to either all, or try adding the ports for your additional connections.

As email requires a separate set of auth, I dont think that this will work however. Squid can auth httpd, ssl, ftp, and more, but dont know if it will be able to proxy the auth for POP or IMAP.

Recommendation: have your ISP forward all mail to your HP, and have users access that after you config either qpop or imap...
