SS7 Stack Restrated on running ioscan -fnC disk
Got an HP 9000 with Autoraid ( 12 disks and with redundant controllers).
why would the SS7 Stack restart when running the ioscan -fn ( ok if ioscan -fu).
Suspect the -fn times out some ss7heartbeat!.
How is the timeout configured under SS7.

Re: SS7 Stack Restrated on running ioscan -fnC disk
Hi
I would suggest that the stack would restart when you use ioscan -fn as opposed to -fu because you are making the kernel go away and rescan the system board etc for all hardware. Does the device detect a signal and kick into life ? maybe...
When you use the -fu option you are calling the last known scan information
Just a suggestion
Steve

Re: SS7 Stack Restrated on running ioscan -fnC disk
do you have a TSC in system or a TSC in TSU or an SIU component.
Also what version of SS7 is installed? 2(.01) or 3?
What is the hardware? K class, A class, L class?
The ioscan -fn will use driver interupts to rescan for devices. It is prefered to use the ioscan -fnk which only queries kernel based structures.
The problem itself is not OC SS7, but rather ioscan creating large system loads/ interupts. You may be better off installing the latest HP-UX patches (QPK) rather than OC patches.

It works for me (tm)

Re: SS7 Stack Restrated on running ioscan -fnC disk
Thanks Steve, Bill
This is a K-Class running OC 2.01 and an SIU.
Running HPUX 11.0 with March 2001 General Release Patches and some later selective Patches.
Talking of ioscan - The Stack Also restarted when I was doing some LUN configuration thro' SAM - I think that does an ioscan -u in the background as well.
Besides the HP QPK Bundle, Is there any timeout in the ftp.conf or global.conf which may affect the STACK if (for example) the Stack processes do not get a response from the SIU.
