Re: SSH issue

Hi,

some questions to trobleshoot better the issue:
- what about telnet connections, if possible? Are they also low to show prompt?
- what about localhost ssh localhost connection?

At first sight I'd suppose it's a resolution problem. Anyway answering to questions above could direct the investigation.

Best regards,
Fabio

Re: SSH issue

so is 11.31 the OS on the box your connecting from? connecting to? both?

trimming wtmp at your end of the connection shouldn't matter with 11.31 installation, as it should be using /dev/random (or maybe its /dev/urandom).

I'd suspect that its an issue with reverse lookup on the end you are connecting to

A Forum search for keywords like
ssh slow
should find many previous similar
discussions. Many mention reverse DNS
problems.

Re: SSH issue

Shalom,

Guide to long logins:

1) Check the same login with numeric ip address. If that is fast and named is slow, you have a DNS response problem. You either need to change /etc/resolv.conf or resolve the speed issues on the DNS server themselves.

2) follow your current path, looking for application issues.

HP frequently issues new releases of openssh under the "brand" name secure shell in http://software.hp.com

Search for secure shell there and you see the new version when released.

Not working for HP or having good sources over there, I have no idea if a new version is pending.

The usual answer to that question is yes.

To avoid these issues, test these releases in a sandbox type system prior to deployment.

Re: SSH issue

Do you have the KRNG (Kernel Random number generate) module installed? Without this, login can be slow if randomness for the encryption has to be generated in some other fashion.

Re: SSH issue

HI

Might be able to get something out of /etc/profile by adding this debug verbose command to line 2:

I'm not sure those files are your problem.

Have you read the other suggestions posted?

I thought you said that trimming wtmp didn't help?

Have you gotten the issue resolved?

Is so, what was the issue / which of the above (if any) fixed it?

finally cleaning which files at regular interval?

Re: SSH issue

Hi

Scripts for cleaning files. Well there is logrotate which is often used by many data centers as well as SAM > Routine Tasks > Trim log files

Both, take some thought and work to get what you want, at least a month history, the current week, and correct periodic cron execution. So spend some time on it to get it right and ask further questions in the itrc.

Just out of curiousity, you do know how to assign points to responders, right? Cuz you profile say only 88 out of 215.

Need to work on this bucko.
