Stale Extents

Dear Sirs;

We received the below alert from out alert monitoring system:

Logical volume /dev/vg00/lvol5 has STALE extents

We are using hpux 11.00.

Can anyone explain what this message means and how to fix this ?

It means that some of the extents are out of date -- usually caused by a disk failure or temporary loss of connectivity. Execute vgsync /dev/vg00 and then use lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol5 to examine the extents. Good extents are "current".

Usually you get this when a disk in a mirrored set goes bad.

I would suggest you check all the disks in VG00 and if one is bad, get it replaced.

I am getting warning alerts for all the logical volumes on the box. Is it some major issue ?

You almost surely have a bad disk. Suggest you contact HP to get it replaced.

hi shiv,

you can run stm (in graphics mode) to check the status of you disk.

if there are any further alert, immediately replace the disk
