/stand not mounted in MMB(Maintenance mode boot)

Hi,
I couldn't find /stand mounted while in MMB mode.is it expected?
i went into MMB by interupting the booting and then by the following command at ISL prompt:
ISL> hpux -vm
it gives the following message:
Can't open /dev/vx/dsk/rootdg/standvol, errno = 6
/dev/vx/dsk/rootdg/standvol: CAN'T CHECK FILE SYSTEM.
/dev/vx/dsk/rootdg/standvol: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
/dev/vx/dsk/rootdg/standvol: No such device or address
Unable to mount /stand - please check entries in /etc/fstab
Skipping KRS database initialization - /stand can't be mounted.

Thanks,
amit mehta

Shalom amit,

Nothing is mounted in single user or maintenance mode. That is expected.

Mount what you need.

mount /usr
mount /stand

If it failes to work run fsck against the device, not them mount point in /etc/fstab

Can you tell me what you are trying to do and perhaps I or others can help you accomplish it.

Re: /stand not mounted in MMB(Maintenance mode boot)

It would have mounted /stand during startup
if all was allright,
it found an error.

I'd say you need to run fsck first !!

And then mount /stand
Look before you leap

Re: /stand not mounted in MMB(Maintenance mode boot)

hi,

i need to know how exactly this mode can be used to recover from failure.
with failure i think, data corruption , unable to boot etc.And with recovery i mean ability to restore data.

thanks,
amit

Re: /stand not mounted in MMB(Maintenance mode boot)

hi steven,
i figured why i need to boot in MMB.
some of which are missing or corrupt LABEL (LIF labeL ,i guess) on the boot disk.
to explicitly corrupt this entry i think a simple dd will work.
ok let me elaborate this issue:
i need to check this functionality.
so i have one LVM boot disk
and one VxVM boot disk.
now by giving "hpux -vm" at ISL prompt i'll be taken to MMB.
So my question is if i would have corrupted the LABEL of the bootdisk(LVM bootdisk) and have booted from the secondry media(i.e. VxVM bootdisk) then how can i recover(bring back the LABEL on the LVM bootdisk)from getting into MMB.

please reply soon.
thanks,
amit
