Static IP addresses and Samba.
Hi,
We have come across a problem which is affecting a number of users in our area.
Users using Windoes 2000 pro who have a static IP address can connect to unix worksations and servers fine. But those who have automatic IP addresses(spelling?) assigned to them are not allowed to connect to the Unix boxes. We are using samba version 1.9.17. We have installed the registry updates on the PC's but this still doesn't work. We believe the problem is related to the non-static IP addresses where the machine name is not related to the IP address assigned to it and so samba does not allow the network connection to be mapped. This is just an theory so if anyone knows otherwise that would be great.
Are there any known reasons as to why this may be happening and any work arounds.
Many thanks,
David.

Re: Static IP addresses and Samba.
Do you have a WINS server running ???
sometimes WINS has problems when IP Addresses change and NETBIOS names don't change.

Re: Static IP addresses and Samba.
Hello,
It might be a problem with the version of Samba you are running. I checked on the Samba web site and the version you are running was released in Oct. 97, so it is quite old. You might need to upgrade to the latest version of Samba.
