i felt relief but when executing the bdf command .. on the /opt is was only 1%.
can some one pls show me how i can install back all my software from the dvd that i got from hpux ..

Re: Steps to install software in /opt
Unless you plan on trying to alter the install location, just swinstall.
Perl for example will by default install into /opt
swinstall -s
Nothing really to do there.

Re: Steps to install software in /opt
So what software (if any) do you find in '/opt'. Perl and Ignite should be there. The majority of what you show otherwise lives in '/usr'.
Post the EXACT syntax of the Ignite make_tape_recovery command that you used to create your recovery tape.
Regards!

Re: Steps to install software in /opt
Course, you also have an OS backup as well right? You could recover /opt from your OS backup.

Re: Steps to install software in /opt
thanks for replying
first of all ..
my server rp5470 suffered this problem
"crt0: ERROR couldn't open /usr/lib/dld.sl errno:000000013"
i try to reboot the server and hoping that it runs as it is ..
but the unfortunately ..
every line in booting in init 3 prompt the error message ...
then i tried to boot using single user mode
i tried to change the permission of the file dld.sl but when evecuting command it prompt the message again ..
in the single mode (bo pri)i manage to mount the /opt. every sw installed is there ..
but when i tried to ls -lisa it prompted again the error message ...
its kind of hard trying to execute command the message keep prompting out .. my vendors tried to solve this but they arent getting any solution ..
the only thing i had is my make_tape_recovery ... to all the masters i will get the command tomorrow at my office..
so i tried to boot on the tape (BO P0) and i managed to get the server booting init 3.
the question i keep asking my mind is the hpux OS installed ...?
after booting in init 3 ..
i have to re set the PATH env;
re set the term; which i got for the same server using .profile
i can ftp, telnet from remote;
then i come-up with this question ..
how do i install the Bundle11i, FDDI, HWEnable11i, and etc as before ..
i tried use the DVD given but i dont know which of which DVD should i put into and which DVD should i start with ..
im planning on doing patching of the server this saturday but the patch i got using swainv is for the previous one ..
on the backup i just backup a part of the opt that is /opt/tomcat ...
as what left in the /opt i will get back the soonest as possible tomorrow morning
thanks again for the good response.
