stm & ems

Hi,

I was trying to update the stm in my hp-ux 11.0 box and during the Analysis phase I got the some warnings as attached. please look at it and tell me what does it mean and if I can proceed with the installation. It also indicates that the EMS is not installed and will install it. Does it require a reboot. Can you give me an example for using EMS.
Thanks.

Re: stm & ems

Hi,

Some of the patches are subsystem patches. Before they get installed they will ensure that the subsystem that needs to be patched is installed on the system. That was the warning you are seeing in your swagent.log. Try installing the patch again after the OnlineDiags are installed. Depending on the version of OnlineDiag you are installing, that patch may not be required.

EMS is Event Monitoring System. It's an excellent too and it can be very useful to find the alarms proactively. It can monitor a variety of subsystems like CPU, memory, disk etc., and log the errors. You can customize it to send emails or to a log file etc.,

Once EMS is installed use the utility "/etc/opt/resmon/lbin/monconfig" to customize it.
Following is the document on using EMS.

Re: stm & ems

Ok,
In your case I can see PHSS_26871 installation
over existing EMS,3 notes (not warnings!) are
about EMS HA monitors (High Availability) which
are most probably just not installed on your
computer.20 from 23 filesets are selected and ok.In other words, looks ok.

P.S EMS HA monitors is a separate product from
EMS and used in MC/SG setups to monitor cluster nodes.

Re: stm & ems

Thanks guys, according to HP site the only patch required PHKL_18543 is already installed. But I'm not sure if the installation will require a reboot for the EMS-core although it should not?
any comments.

Re: stm & ems

afaik it doesn't require reboot on 11.x
better to install latest patches on EMS
as they have latest fixes.

Re: stm & ems

One last question. is there a software that will analyze the patches in the system and will list what patches need to be installed?
thanks again

Re: stm & ems

Hi Kim,

If you have support contract with HP, you can use "Custom Patch Manager" to get the patches that are missing on your system. Go to http://itrc.hp.com and click on "more.." in maintenance and support and look under "patching" section.

If you don't have support contract, then you can install the standard patch bundles (Support Plus bundles) that HP releases every quarter.

Re: stm & ems

Hello!

If you have suport from HP that they could
do patch managment and bring your system
to the best patch level.
This way your system will have all the needed
patches.
