STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

A recent HPMC problem has thrown up a problem with STM on one of our 10.20 K class systems.

On this system I have no pdcinfo setup and /var/tombstones does not exist which means I am going to have to reboot to get the PIM details for HP support. Also STM is not operational on this system and complains that there is no catalog directory.

I have confirmed that the STM monitor directory does not exist on this system although the other STM directories do which is why STM is not operational but the strange thing is that our development system DOES have the correct directories for STM AND has /var/tombstones and pdcinfo operational.

Both of these systems had the December 2001 Support plus diagnostics bundles installed earlier this year but looking through /var/adm/sw/swinstall.log I notice that unlike the working system , the "faulty" systems install failed to include the "Sup-Tool-Mgr-800.STM-CATALOGS,r=B.10.20.24.10,a=HP-UX_B.10.20_800,v
=HP" although all of the other STM "parts" were installed.

Any ideas why this might have been excluded and what I need to do to get the installation sorted - Do I/Can I uninstall the Diagnostics and re-install ?

Hi,

What system model we are talking about ?

For workstations like B2000 or S700 systems you are not able to use diagnostics.

K Class (as per my question ?) K370 has the problem K450 does not.

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

Hi,

Sorry I overlooked the K thing.

I would suggest to solved this by removing all diagnostics/stm software, and install the latest version from installation media/or web.

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

Hi Nick:

Try reinstalling STM. That is, specifically set '-x reinstall=true' and '-x reinstall_files=true'. I recall that under 10.20, at least for some STM upgrades, this was the only way I got a viable upgrade.

Regards!

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

I think for some reason you had a bad installation of Sup-Tool-Mgr-800. Lets do this first ..
# swlist -l fileset Sup-Tool-Mgr-800
Do you see the complete filesets ? Probably not.. another think to look for are the revisions of all those filesets, are they all the same ?
If answers to both are no, the you got to re-install. What you should do before you reinstall is stop diagnostics first.
# /sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop
Remember to enable the reinstall option (ie set to true) when you do the install.

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

Thank you for suggestions - I am going to do this work over the weekend as I still don't know the reason for the HPMC yet. Fingers crossed that it won't repeat until then. The missing STM software from this system is -

Sup-Tool-Mgr-800.STM-CATALOGS B.10.20.24.10 s800 Support Tools Manage
r Catalogs

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

Hi,

Be sure to remove the old installation, and indeed don't forget to stop diagnostics and maybe even predictive !

Good luck.

Re: STM - missing catalog & pdcinfo not installed

To wrap this up - the following items were not installed during the diagnostics installation on one of my servers although they were on the second server without problem.

Contrib-Tools.PDCINFO,r=B.10.20.24.10,a=HP-UX_B.10.20_800,v=HP
Contrib-Tools.PIMTOOL,r=B.10.20.24.10,a=HP-UX_B.10.20_800,v=HP
Sup-Tool-Mgr-800.STM-CATALOGS,r=B.10.20.24.10,a=HP-UX_B.10.20_800,v
=HP.

After stopping diagnostics I then attempted to reinstall with reinstall=true and reinstall_files=true set, however the second install failed to even list these options in the sw logs again.

Finally I selected just these items alone for the install and they went in fine. Why they would not install as part of the bundle installation I have no idea.

And now I know that one of my processors has had an icache failure and I am awaiting a replacement processor.

case closed.
