storage

Hi,

I am reading coldinstall instructions ...

http://docs.hp.com/en/5990-6721/ch01s08.html#d0e1571

Storage Requirements:

8 GB root disk, minimum, when installing or updating to HP-UX 11.0. This can be a single disk drive or combination of physical disks configured as one root volume group.

But a table below that gives additional requirements for coldinstall. Currently, this HP machine with 11.00 doesn't have 8gb /. In fact it is 500 MB. Is it necessary to have 8gb /?

Please suggest.

Re: storage

8GB would be very comfortable. You could get by with 4GB or maybe even 2GB, but I don't think you can squeeze an 11.0 system onto just 500MB. Back in the old days, 500MB would have been plenty but, with each new release, more features have been included and space requirements have increased accordingly.

Re: storage

Hi ,

4GB is minimum required for OS .Its not recommnded to span / FS in multiple disks.

During install you can select Option for having Seperate file system for OS directories

like /, /var,/tmp ,/stand ,/opt,/home

Its not a good idea to span / on 2 diff disks. But other FS can be on seperate PV.

Thanks ,
BL.
