striped file system with different type disks

I have a N4000 server running HPUX 11.00, connected to a FC enclosure populated with 18GB 10K RPM disks. These disks are used all together in a single logical volume for a striped file system.
One of the disk broke and the assistance (not HP) offered me to substitute it with a 15K RPM one, since the original one is no more available.
I would like to know if mixing disks of different speed in a striped file system may be a problem.

Re: striped file system with different type disks

Hi,
If your enclosure (I presume from the same vendor that now replaces the disk) can handle the new disk, there shouldn't be a problem.
I've mixed ClarIIon with Symmetrix with SC10 disks in volumegroups and never had any problems with it.

Re: striped file system with different type disks

No, it wont be a problem. It would only be a problem if you added a disk which is slower than all the others in the striped lvol, but in your case youre getting a same or faster disk so no problem.
