sudo on 10.2 system

I installed sudo from the HP public domain web sight using swinstall (ver 1.6.2b1) on my 10.20 server. When I try to execute I get the following error message.

su: /usr/local/bin/sudo: Execute permission denied.

The permission are as follows on the sudo files.

# ll /usr/local/bin/sudo
---S--x--x 1 root root 364792 Jun 22 2001 /usr/local/bin/sudo

# ll /usr/local/etc/visudo
---x--x--x 1 root root 214608 Jun 22 2001 /usr/local/etc/visudo

# ll /etc/sudoers
-r--r----- 1 root root 767 Jun 22 2001 /etc/sudoers

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

do you have your sudoers file setup correctly, and what are you trying to run.. su?
then do this
sudo su 'username'

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

Hi,

The correct permission for 'sudo' files are as below.

r--r----- 0/0 398 Jul 27 15:06 2001 /etc/sudoers
--x--x--x 0/0 102400 Jul 27 14:54 2001 /usr/local/sbin/visudo
r--r--r-- 0/0 16851 Jul 27 14:54 2001 /usr/local/man/man1m/sudo.1m
r--r--r-- 0/0 8801 Jul 27 14:54 2001 /usr/local/man/man1m/visudo.1m
--s--x--x 0/0 135168 Jul 27 14:54 2001 /usr/local/bin/sudo

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

Yes I believe I have the account set up correctly. It is a copy from an 11.0 system on which sudo works properly.

When I sudo su username ..... I receive the same error message.

Thanks

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

MIchael,
I change the permissions on the /usr/local/bin/sudo from 4011 to 4111 and I still get the error message when I try to execure a command using sudo.

Thanks

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

Hi,

If this is a copy from your HPUX 11 system and
you are trying to run it a 10.20 system it could be that the binaries are not compatiable. Suggest you download one from the porting centre that has been compiled under 10.20.

Here's the link:

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

Michael,
The only thing copied was the /etc/sudoers file, I used the sight that you suggested to get a copy of sudo and using swinstall installed the depot copy from the hp public domain web sight.

Thanks

Re: sudo on 10.2 system

Hello Elaine,

I agree with Michael that you will want to take a look at the ported version with the link provided by him. Also make sure that root had a UID of 0 and that /etc/group root is the only use in the 0 entry. Other then that everything looks good as far as ownership and permission. I use sudo soley in my environment so I've run into just about anything you can think with the product.

Good Luck,

Layne
