swap device size < physical memory

Is it meaningful to have swap device defined as smaller than the physical memory on the system? For example, is it meaningful have defined a total of 2GB swap disk on a system with 8GB physical memory?

What is the meaning of "reserve" line on "swapinfo -mt" output?
