Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

-Torsten-

Even after different bus structures and controllsers, can I make them (at least disk devices) to use same drive? Will it work?

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

BTW, the ability to use a device connected to a certain controller as boot and swap device depends on the systems firmware (IODC).
Some controllers are not supported as a dump or boot device at all (not in your case I guess).

Make sure your system (K580) has version 39.43.

example from a previous version:

- adds Boot/Dump support for A3629A (9GB) disks

Hope this helps!

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

Hi Guys,

It seems that you have misread the ioscan output.

The disk3 driver you are referring to and 10/4 bus is for the floppy drive
Whereas RAC is talking about 10/0.6.0 and 10/0.10.0
Noe the discussion can be continued :)

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

The drivers used for bus/interface and devices is dependent on the IO architecture of the server.

scsi1 driver is used on SIO based servers using HP-PB Bus having SCSI SE interface.

scsi2 driver is used in CIO based servers ( quite old ) having CIO SCSI interface.

This confirms that HP-PB interface card are being used with disc3 disk driver for the disk in vgroot. The IODC on the HP-PB interface card has known limitation of maximum addressing upto 2GB for swap (primary) and 4GB for dump.

The disks in vg00 are using GSC( WSIO ) interface with "sdisk" disk driver. IODC of GSC interface card allow swap more than 2GB.

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

The IODC firmware on all scsi cars is same-0x4. The only difference is drives used. Can I make them use sdisk driver irrespective of SCSI card IODC firmware?

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

@Ninad:

this normal behaviour of the driver.
It's a heavy 9GB seagate drive, not a floppy.

Hope this helps!

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

Please read Sameers last post.

There are specific drivers for specific BUS structures.

Your only way around is to use not the HP PB BUS, but rather another controller for the HP GSC bus.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

I came to conclude that this is on account of the fact that disks are using different SCSI controllers. Thank you everyone.

Re: Swap logical volume size beyond the IODC max address.

It looks like you have 2 internal and 2 external drives.

Why not place the external drives inside the server? This will solve your issue.

If this is a test system only, HA doesn't matter, I guess. All disks will share the same bus, I know.

You have to adjust the devicefiles because of a different HW path, but I know you are aware of this.

Hope this helps!
