swap setting.

I have 3.75gig mem 3.2 usable.
I have set swap at 2gig.

Should it be 2x hard mem - 6gig??

Re: swap setting.

Is swapmem_on=1 in the kernel? if it is you have another 2.5 GB of Psudeo swap, and should be fine. If swapmem=0, then you will have to expand the device swap to a minimum of 3.75 GB. (or regen the kernel with the swapmem_on=1)

Re: swap setting.

swapmem is on. hp-ux 11.11.

How are you getting the number 2.5 gig of psudeo?

Re: swap setting.

With swapmem_on=1, 75% of your physical memory is counted as swap space, so your have about 2.8GB plus your device and filesystem swap space to count as swapspace. Pseudoswap isn't really swap at all but simply kernel bookeeping. You should monitor your swap usage but as long as you don't see significant actual swap usage, you are fine.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: swap setting.

Hi,

Normally swap can be kept of any size. It is not on OS part that you decide how much swap you shoud have. It is a application requirement rather how much swap should be there. So it actually depends on the applications running on your system & current utilization of swap space.
