swap the root HDD in rx2660

Hi,

We have same H/W( all are rx2660), one of the server having system board issue. can i swap the root disk with spare machine.

If possiable please share me the steps.

In general yes, but do you use "plain" disks or any hardware RAID controller? Some adjustments may be needed.

Hi,

If you have spare machine ,why dont you swap the system board.


Instead of swapping the root HDD better take an ignite backup and restore it on the spare machine

for taking ignite backup on tape

make_tape_recovery -Avi -x inc_entire=/dev/vg00 -a /dev/rmt/mn

and boot the spare from ignite tape and restore

both servers must have the same controller.

2 options:

- use ignite
- power down both servers and transfer all the drives (aka drive roaming)

I don't want use the ignite.

i will swap the root disk (both the disks in RAID 1)and reboot the server.

will it reboot? or i need to do some activity.
