swcopy hanging when copying 11.23 DVD
Hi,
I am performing an 'swcopy', via the GUI, to a depot from the HP-UX 11.23 installation software DVD. The depot is to be used for ignite installations. After copying around 1 gigabyte the process hangs.
1. The server operating system is 11.11
2. SD cumulative patch level is 27/03/2006 PHCO_34539
3. The DVD was mounted using 'mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c4t1d0 /cdrom
4. No file systems are full.
Has anyone come accross this before ?
Regards
Steve

Re: swcopy hanging when copying 11.23 DVD
Shalom Steve,
A few possibilities:
1) The media may simiply be bad.
2) Check that its mounted correctly. The instructions may be different for this OS.
3) I'm guessing you may need a 11.23 Ignite server to properly serve this archive, but can't find that in any handy documents.
4) It could be a multi DVD install and hanging on a disk change(don't think so but...)
5) If you are copying to an NFS mount point, there could be NFS trouble, including the system being busy.
6) You may get some clues from /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log or the sw log itself that swcopy is generated. The name of the later log file should be displayed when you started the swcopy.
7) swagentd might not be running or may have crashed. /sbin/init.d/swagentd start
If I were a betting person, I'd guess 7.
What command precise command you were using for the swcopy, I suppose it could be a syntax error as well.

Re: swcopy hanging when copying 11.23 DVD
Check the SD-UX log files
var/adm/sw/swagentd.log var/adm/sw/swagent/log
Can you verify the 11.11 version of HP-UX as version B? (11.23)?
(PHCO_34539 is an 11.11 patch but you noted 11.23 installation DVD.)
Coincidently, this problem is described in PHCO_34529.
JAGaf63465: The swcopy or swinstall program appears to hang
in the software selection phase while consuming a high
percentage of CPU. In some cases, this delay can last tens
of minutes. Eventually, the selection operation completes
and the program proceeds normally.
