swinstall - add codeword problem

Hi,

I have a system here I need to load ServiceGuard on.
So I tried to add the software codeword for it.

However, when I go to 'Actions->Add New Codeword' I get "The menu item you have chosen is not available for the current state of the application."

Anyone knows what's going on here?

Last time I did this (admittedly years ago) this worked fine.

This system is newly built PA risc box w. hpux 11i.

thanks,
Peter

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

Hi Peter,

From where you try to install the ServiceGuard ? HP-UX CD Application ? If from CD, did you already mount the CD first and put the correct source ?

Did you already apply the latest patch bundles for your new system ? Since the patch bundles will fixed the bugs on the basic OS installation.

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,
AW

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

I haven't tried to install ServiceGuard yet because I can't see it.

If I remember correctly, the software package will not become available for install until after the codeword has been entered?

I assume the software is located on the Enterprise OE DVD that was shipped to us.
DVD is in the drive and swinstall produces a list of packages available for install.
No ServiceGuard though, -I assume I need to enter the codeword first..?

The box supposedly containing ServiceGuard only has a codeword document and a License in it..

A few lines of installation instructions would have been nice.. :-(

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

MC/SG should actually be on the Applications DVD, not the Enterprise OE DVD.

Find the Apps DVD, invoke swinstall, and then see if you can add the codeword.

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

When you install packages from protected disk Swinstall will notice you that some application is protected and you must give code word to deploy them.
so:
check your disk first!

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

Well someone else built the system and left the DVD in the drive, in case we needed to install more software. ;-)
Unfortunatley the system is at an unmanned centre at the other end of the city

Seems like I need to go there and check the disk then.

Will have to wait until tomorrow..

thanks guys..

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

Hi Peter,

The ServiceGuard software is available at HP-UX 11i Application Software CD.

For HP-UX 11i version 1 on May 2005 edition, you can find the software at CD #4. The PartNumber is B3935DA.

For HP-UX 11i version 2 on May 2005 edition, just look at for HP-UX 11i version 2 Application Software (only 1 CD). The PartNumber is T1905BA.

You need to apply the codeword to see & make the software available to install.

Hope this information can help you.

Re: swinstall - add codeword problem

Swapped DVDs to the application disk.
Now swinstall lets me add codewords as much as I like.

Another csae of unhelpful error messages.

Thanks everyone!

Peter
