swinstall patch select
Our Admins will be applying the Dec06 Hardware Enablement Bundle to a 5470 running HP-UX 11.11 HWE-patched to Sep05. We apply bundles with swinstall option "manage patch selection", which of course "unmarks" many of the patches. There are 2 patches in particular (see below if you are going to ask) that we want to apply to correct an ongoing va7410 problem. My question is this: if swinstall "manage patch selection" "unmarks" the desired patches, can I simply "mark" them and proceed with patch bundle installation? Thank you. (VA7410 "Fibre Channel driver non-participating mode"/"Fibre Channel Abort Sequence" fix patch info: HP has specified
PHSS_26799, which is now superceded by PHSS_31326, included in HWE DEC06, and HP has specified PHKL_29365, which is now superceded by PHKL_32090, included in HWE DEC06)

Re: swinstall patch select
There are two different options to play with. During the installation of a product, the "autoselect_patches" option will choose any patches that modify the products being installed. This is the equivalent of the "Include patches with selected (marked) software from the source" option.
The one you are interested in is "patch_match_target" which is the same as "Automatically select patches for existing software on the target". This selects any patch ***that can be installed***.
When using patch_match_target=true a patch will be deselected for a number of reasons:
* The patch is for a product version not found on the system
* The patch or one that is newer is already installed
* The patch has a checkinstall script that excluded itself from installation
In any of these cases there is nothing you *should* do to force it on. You should be able to see which of these reasons apply by reviewing the file /var/adm/sw/swagent.log.
