Swinstall problem

I'm attempting to install the DEC-KT-Toolset from the 11.0 application software disk onto an old 700 series workstation running 11.0. Problem is I keep getting an I/O error and it tells me to check available space in the temporary directories such as /tmp or /usr/tmp. However both directories exist and the filesystem(s) have plenty of space. I can tell you that this works on a different, newer machine and also this workstation has been up for 464 days. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Re: Swinstall problem

Are you using SW designed for a s800 series system and you are trying to install onto a s700 system?

Re: Swinstall problem

if youre getting an i/o error then it sounds like the older workstation is having trouble accessing the CD drive. Try copying the software into a depot on a newer workstation and then installing from the software depot.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: Swinstall problem

I/O error. Are you loading it from tape? If so, it's probably bad. Try just reading the tape using tar.

If it's network/depot, then that's more fun.

Local depot, could be a bad disk. Try checking diags and also create a tarball of the files your trying to install. It might also report an i/o error then.

Over the network, then it's open season.

Re: Swinstall problem

Check permission into /tmp, /usr/tmp. See /var/tmp as well.
To install that part of the DCE you need to have installed DCE core (can be found in the core OS cd.
Be sure you are using the right cdrom.

Re: Swinstall problem

No, this software is designed to run on both 700 and 800 series machines. I just double checked this.
