I have a set of patches on a depot that I am trying to install. I ran "swinstall" with the preview option and it gave a message stating
"The software dependencies for 8 products or filesets cannot be resolved"
I ran the subsequent "swjob" and the summary stated
"ERROR: 23 of 45 filesets had Errors.
* 1 of 45 filesets will be Skipped.
* 21 of 45 filesets had no Errors or Warnings.
ERROR: The Analysis Phase had errors. See the above output for details"
I have had this type of message returned from HP patch installs before. I remember having to resolve patch dependencies that never resolved themselves because the dependencies always had dependencies.
If I just proceed with the swinstall without the preview option (I won't be using "enforce_dependencies=false")
* Will the install of the "21 filesets with the no errors or warnings" be installed OK?
* Will the 23 filesets with errors be disregarded?
If the answer to both is "Yes", then I can proceed and only come back to these error messages if patches I have installed don't work
Please comment
With Thanks
Nick

Solutionit is not recommended to install patches with ERROR messages .
this meesage mean that you dont have all the Dep of the patches that you want to install .
if you have all ready this patches install you will not get this error .
please go the itrc patch page and download all the patches that the patches dep. want .
dont install the patches if you have 23 fileset of error .
if you need to know the dep of the patch list you can give it over here and i will give you the output .

Re: swinstall question
I think the errors may be due to dependencies of patches, so, they may not be real errors, you can just go ahead and install the patches. That's what I did to patch my system.

Re: swinstall question
Its better to download all the patches you need from the HP site and it will show you all the dependencies and actually download all the dependencies along with the actual patch .
From the forums , go into the maintainencae and support for Hp products and then to patches and download everything .

Re: swinstall question
Provided you leave this option alone (which you always should) it will only install the products whose dependencies are present. But my recommendation would be to get all the dependencies and do them all in one go.
Whichever option you choose, make sure you've got an ignite backup (preferably two) before you start.

Re: swinstall question
Thanks for all your comments.
I hadn't intended to install the patches with errors.
The consensus view is that I find all dependencies, before doing the install. I'll have a look at the patch download site as you suggest.
Best regards
Nick

Re: swinstall question
This is kind of late, but I figured it might be a useful postscript...
When swinstall has behaved in unexpected ways, I've found it beneficial to install the latest SD-UX cumulative patch. Many consider it to be a "best practice" to insure that SD-UX is at the latest patch level before installing a patch bundle.
I couldn't tell from your post which version of HP-UX you're running, but the latest SD-UX cumulative patch for 11i is PHCO_28848, while for 11.0 it's PHCO_28847. Neither patch requires a reboot and the only dependency is for 11.0 (PHNE_29387, which doesn't have any further dependencies).
Best Regards,
Dave
