swinstall session via cifsmount

Hi Folks,

I would like to do to start swinstall, where the source depot is a cifsmounted directory
( CD-Rom of my local PC). If I start the session swinstall hangs during "Reading the software source".
Any idea how to solve this ?

Greetings

Re: swinstall session via cifsmount

Can you cd into or list the directory where you have your depot (the cd on your pc)? Does it take a long time?

Try doing a "du -sk "

see how long it takes. CD's are slow.

Re: swinstall session via cifsmount

CIFS doesnt seem to able to reliably cope with the large amounts of data, and fast retreival, Software Distributor requires. I would not recommend using CIFS mounted filesystems for SD tasks.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: swinstall session via cifsmount

Hi,

it is quiet fast, means not much slower like
a local CD Drive.
Have you ever done swinstall from a cifsmounted
directory ?

Re: swinstall session via cifsmount

Is the depot you are attempting to install a depot file, or a depot repository?

Re: swinstall session via cifsmount

Hello Mirko,

IIRC, then "swinstall" tries some file-and-record locking on the depot - this will not work with CIFS/9000 I am afraid.
It might be possible with a depot-file, though...
